PIHH Development Sdn Bhd

Halal Industries and Halal Penang entered into a strategic partnership to develop and market jointly the twinning of Penang Industrial Halal Park in overseas countries in particular UK, Brazil, Europe, Iran, Dubai and India.

Activities include developing value add services in PIHH in the area of Financial services and Human capital (overseas placement). PIHH Development Sdn Bhd is the Penang State agency responsible for the promotion, facilitation and development of the Penang International Halal Hub (PIHH) - an initiative run and administered by Halal Penang and overseen by the Office of the State Minister for Religious Affairs, Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, for the development of Halal Industries in the Penang region as well as on an international basis 

 

HIG will shortly announce several other collaborative partnerships that is currently being negotiated.

  What is halal?  
 
 

Halal (halalal) is an Arabic term meaning “permissible”

In the English language, it most frequently refers to food that is permissible according to Islamic law.

In the Arabic language, however the true meaning is it refers to anything that is permissible under Islam.

In non-Arabic-speaking countries, the terms is most commonly used in the narrower context of just Muslim dietary laws, especially where meat and poultry are concerned, however it also refers to a  number of other consumer and industry related products e.g pharmaceuticals, life sciences and fertilsers etc.

The basic principle of Islamic banking is the prohibition of Riba- (Usury - or interest):

"While a basic tenet of Islamic banking - the outlawing of riba, a term that encompasses not only the concept of ‘usury’, but also that of interest.
